Ortho-K

Ortho-K, or Orthokeratology is the practice of temporarily and safely using overnight gas-permeable contact lenses that can correct vision without glasses or contacts throughout the day. It works by gently reshaping the cell structure on the surface of the eye. This process is completely reversible, and the cornea will return to its original shape upon discontinuation. This is a very popular option for our pediatrics population that do sports, especially swimming and contact sports, where contact lenses are not a good option.

Many studies agree that Ortho-K treatment can lower progression of nearsightedness (or myopia) by 30-40%. It is one of the most effective methods to manage it in our younger populations.

Ortho-K lenses are sophisticated reverse geometry designs with state-of-the-art fabrication. Over the course of two weeks, the cornea will reshape during overnight wear due to compression and redistribution of cells with pressure from fluid dynamics. They are made from highly breathable materials that are FDA approved. We use the gold standard of equipment in corneal topography for the best and most efficient Ortho-K fitting examinations.

Ortho-K is not for everybody, as there are limitations to who qualifies, so please call or email the office with any questions.
