Welcome to North Park Family Vision where patient care and education comes first. Since 1944, our optometry practice has served families in the the Chicago Neighborhoods of North Park, Hollywood Park, Lakeview, Albany Park, and Ravenswood. All comprehensive examinations are individually tailored to each patients’ needs. Dr. Mark Takesuye provides several eye care services to serve patient needs, including adult and children’s’ eye exams, vision therapy, hard-to-fit contact lenses, eye emergencies, ocular disease, and co-management with ophthalmology for refractive surgery (LASIK/PRK) and cataract removal. At North Park Family Vision, all patients are screened for diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and other common eye diseases.
Dr. Mark believes that one of the most important factors of happiness in life is clear, comfortable vision, and treats each patient as family, giving the best vision possible. Our Story
The practice was opened in 1944 by Dr. Ben Chikaraishi after moving to Chicago, originally located in the Lakeview neighborhood as a full-service optometry office. Services included eye examinations, choosing frames, and cutting glass lenses in the office for his patients. He served the local community for many years before his son, Dr. James Chikaraishi graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry, joining his father as a partner. The practice moved to the North Park neighborhood, where many patients followed the Chikaraishis to continue family-oriented care. Dr. Ben retired and Dr. Jim was later joined by his wife, Amy. Patients now love to talk about how friendly and honest Jim and Amy were and how many deep relationships they have formed over the years, and how much good they have done for their community. Jim and Amy retired in 2019 and transitioned the practice to Dr. Mark Takesuye, who is able to continue the care that has been provided thus far.

Having been a patient of Dr's Ben and Jim Chikaraishi all my life, I have to say they are a tough act to follow. Dr Mark is quite a contender though! He was very professional, knowledgeable and attentive to what my vision needs are. He was also very thorough and good at explaining tests, results and options. Dr. Mark was truly amazing and is someone who genuinely cares about his patients! He is very patient, and takes his time with the eye exams and is very thorough. He is very knowledgeable and you can tell that right away! He seems to be very experienced and I was definitely shocked when he told me some information about how bad my current glasses are.
Dr. Mark and his assistant are definitely very welcoming and make you feel right at home! When I was picking out glasses she helped me with the process.

This is a great little office! Extremely friendly. It's storefront doesn't really stand out, but don't judge a book by its cover Dr. Mark told me more about the relationship between my eyes and my health than any eye doctor I've seen before. I learned quite a few new things. It's an excellent addition to the neighborhood. They take EyeMed insurance (among others).

I go to Dr. Mark's office every year. The first time he did my exam he knew immediately that I had dry eye. He recommended some eye drops and supplements to take which have worked well so far. Also very happy with his exam and glasses selection. In the past when I have gotten new glasses, it takes a few weeks to get used to them. When I get new glasses from Dr. Mark's office, they feel comfortable almost immediately. He is also constantly getting new frames and lenses and there is a noticeable improvement in quality compared to my old glasses.

Whether you're in the area or not and just looking for an eye doctor, you have to give Dr. Mark a try. I've lived in the area for 9 years and only just found his practice. I often fall asleep with my glasses on and wake up to a mangled pair. Mark puts them back to "normal" when I bring them in for service.
Please take the opportunity to visit his office and become his patient. You won't be disappointed.
