Seeing Double!!!

Many patients suffer from double vision, or diplopia. This can be in children, after cataract surgery, or simply as the eyes lose binocular function and teaming.

If you suffer from double vision, expect to be asked several questions:

“how long have you been seeing double?”

“how often do you see double"?”

“are the images side to side, up and down, or diagonal?”

These are just a few, but a comprehensive exam tests how the brain puts images from the eyes together, and how it affects your life.

Often times double vision can make reading, driving, sports, or activities of daily living difficult. For those whose eyes are only double part time, even when they’re not seeing double, their spatial ability can be affected, and may suffer from eyestrain and headaches. For those with vertical images, sometimes they may compensate with a head tilt, which can interfere with posture and ergonomics, causing problems for the entire body.

If you’re seeing double, come in for an evaluation, or call the office for more questions. There are many treatment options, and Dr. Mark Takesuye can help decide what the best option is for you.
